So, all day Saturday we had meetings, and learned lots of stuff, and conducted business in a business-like fashion. Just like one would expect on a business trip.

And so on Sunday, I think we had earned a little fun.

First Stop

So a whole bunch of EagleRider folks, corporate AND franchise owners together, went for a ride through the park again.

So, what's the point of all this? I'll tell you a secret:

Yup, it's true. The secret's out. If you have a motorcycle license, you can rent a bike from EagleRider. Part Two - Do we REALLY have to go to work today??

So, the convention doesn't start until 2:00pm, and here we are, in the middle of a beautiful desert, with a few hours to kill and a Harley.

Well, what would YOU do?

Damn straight.

The view from the hotel room last night let loose to this incredible view the next morning. Can't stay in. Hills and rocks and weird-looking Joshua Trees are calling us.

So we head off to Joshua Tree State Park - after a quick breakfast at a local eatery. The Country Kitchen, right on Twentynine Palms and next to a gas station - chili-cheese omelette with homemade homefries. And a very special homemade salsa - mild, hot, or ridiculous! And - she's quick to point out this picture of her - on a Harley!

Off to the park. Daylight's burning, and we're a solid hour's ride from the ACTUAL business trip, once we set off for La Quinta.

OK, fine. I guess it's time to head to actual work. Hard to sit in a convention center - as beautiful as it was in La Quinta - when all this desert and riding is waiting outside for you...but it is a business trip after all, right?

And, of course, EagleRider sure does put on a nice spread for dinner:

The EagleRider Franchise Convention – or, the View Looks Good from Here!

Part One – Getting where we’re going

Over the last few days, we headed off to the EagleRider Motorcycle Rentals Franchise Convention, hosted this year in beautiful La Quinta, California. As you probably know, Liberty is also an EagleRider Rentals location during the riding season, from April to October. So once a year, just like the Harley-Davidson convention, all the EagleRider folk get together for a meeting.

Were there meetings? Oh yes. Keynote Speaker? Definitely. Showcase of products available? Absolutely.

But what I’ll always remember was that this trip reaffirmed why we’re in the Harley-Davidson business: Because “business trips” look different when you’re in the motorcycle business, and especially the Harley-Davidson business.

This particular trip, the location was about 3 hours from LAX. Where people in other businesses may have rented a car, or taken a puddle-jumper to Palm Springs, we hopped over to EagleRider’s LA location, and rented a Harley. A REALLY nice ElectraGlide, low mileage and ready to go. It was awesome to actually play the part of a customer, and the experience was efficient, courteous, and all-around fantastic. Before we knew it, we were changed from “business travelers” to “Harley riders” and off we went to the event. A 3-hour trip, but instead of staying at the official resort, we headed up to Joshua Tree National Park, about an hour from the convention. After a bunch of local traffic, the road opened up to Yucca Valley and became gently winding roads through beautiful desert vistas. Too bad it was already too dark (and cold!) that first night to really check out the scenery. Quick dinner at a local bar, and that was about it for day one after that long flight.

But what we woke up to the next morning was not like any regular business trip.

Harley-Davidson rocks Beach Street, Speedway in Daytona

(2/21/2012) - MILWAUKEE - Harley-Davidson will fire up the riding season at Daytona Bike Week 2012 with a collection of the latest and greatest motorcycles and more at Riverfront Park on Beach Street and at Daytona International Speedway.

“We know that Daytona Bike Week signals the start of motorcycle season, and Harley-Davidson has been part of that tradition since the beginning,” said Steve Piehl, Harley-Davidson Director of Customer Experience. “Not only will we give riders a chance to enjoy our new motorcycles at the Speedway, but we are also a big part of the scene at Riverfront Park on Beach Street. We love being there with thousands of riders enjoying the Harley experience.”

Harley-Davidson will display motorcycles, MotorClothes, H-D1 customization, Women’s Area, Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) raffle, H-D Insurance, H-D Visa, Willie G. merchandise, beverages, free parking and more at Riverfront Park on Beach Street from Saturday, March 10 to Saturday, March 17, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

In a country where more and more jobs are outsourced, and more and more products are built in other countries, we're proud to sell an American motorcycle, assembled in America, by American workers.

The York Facility, in York, Pennsylvania, assembles the Touring, Softail®, CVO™ and Trike models; the factory also performs several manufacturing operations, including making parts like frames, fuel tanks, and fenders.

York is a nice ride from Liberty, taking about 3 hours on the interstates - but you could take all the time in the world and enjoy a quiet, back-road experience through scenic PA. Once there, they give free daily tours from 9am to 2pm Monday through Friday. It's really amazing to see the bikes coming together, and the organization and planning that goes into ensuring the process runs smoothly.

For those a little more hardcore, they have a "Steel Toe Tour" for small groups - including some employee-only areas - but they're not kidding, safety equipment is required. These special, more personalized tours are $35. They frequently sell out, so advance ticket purchase is recommended.

Harley-Davidson joins forces with Marvel

(2/16/2012) - MILWAUKEE - Harley-Davidson and Marvel Entertainment have come together again for the Assemble Your Freedom contest where customers can assemble their dream bike and become a character in an Avengers comic.

From now through July 1, anyone can enter the Assemble Your Freedom contest online at www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/avengers. Just create a profile with a hero name and description along with selecting a Super Hero bike model and features on the Harley-Davidson H-D1 Bike Builder.

Harley-Davidson Museum® opens special exhibit this summer – Worn to be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket

(2/9/2012) - MILWAUKEE - This summer, the Harley-Davidson Museum, in partnership with the EMP Museum (formerly known as the Experience Music Project Museum), will celebrate and pay tribute to the fascinating history of one of the most enduring and iconic articles of clothing in our popular culture – the black leather jacket.

Worn to be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket runs June 16 through Sept. 3. The exhibit will walk visitors through the evolution of the leather jacket, beginning with its role as a solely functional piece of clothing meant to protect pilots and motorcyclists from the elements, through its adoption by Hollywood celebrities, rock stars and counter-culture youth as a symbol of rebellion and cool, to its modern-day designs from fashion houses such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Gianni Versace.

Worn to be Wild is the first exhibit to chronicle the jacket’s many uses, and also the first exhibit created by the Harley-Davidson Museum curatorial staff that will travel to other venues following its run at the Museum. The exhibit will be showcased at the EMP Museum in Seattle October 2012 through February 2013 as well as other additional venues through the end of 2014.

“The leather jacket symbolizes different things for each person who wears it, whether they are a motorcyclist, celebrity or a top designer,” said Bill Davidson, Vice President of the Harley-Davidson Museum. “This summer, the Harley-Davidson Museum is excited to introduce all these unique stories in one place through the Worn to Be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket exhibit, and for the first time, showcase how this one garment has become an icon in pop culture and fashion.”

The Expo floor is HUGE! It's a mix of new product and already proven existing product. Here you can see the new Headlamp Trim Rings.

Hard Candy Flake is a new series of paint they came out with. Anyone see our new Pink Lady and Nightstalker paint? Big sparkley flake paint? Well, seems we got that out about 3 weeks before Harley released the same idea. The paint is real nice though! (Great minds, right?)

It's hard to take good pics of the flake paint - it just doesn't show how good it is this size.

It's just really really nice.

Liberty Harley-Davidson to Host Checkpoint for World Record Ride

Starting at the Daytona International Speedway on September 9th, 2011 with a media send off, The Guinness World Record Ride will embark on it's national journey around America with one goal in mind - to raise a million dollars for EACH of three worthy causes: (1) victims of domestic violence, (2) homeless veterans and (3) breast cancer patients. COWGIRLS GIT R DUN, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to these causes and is attempting to break several GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS in the process.

Leaving from Daytona, FL on Sept. 9, The World Record Ride will travel across 35 states in 35 days arriving in Rahway, NJ on Sept. 13. This historical adventure will complete 8,625 miles plus a Broken Spoke, arriving back in Daytona for the opening day of Biketoberfest, on October 13th.

The National Homeless Veterans Support organization and its founder, George Taylor, will be helping to develop The Ride. George is also the Florida State Director of The Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was this year’s guest speaker for BOTH the National conventions of the VFW and the American Legion. Liberty Harley-Davidson will be working with local businesses and organizations to make the New Jersey checkpoint a positive experience for the riders. We need volunteers, promoters, and riders to assist in this event. We also have a new section of the website for local Biker events in the area. Hot Rods and Harleys Filled the Streets of Downtown Rahway

Despite the threat of a downpour, thousands of people filled the streets of Downtown Rahway for Hot Rods and Harleys this weekend. Hot custom bikes filled the Rahway Train Station Plaza, and the classic cars and hot rods lined the closed-to-traffic streets of downtown. And of course, the weather held throughout the day.

"I think it’s great, how many people came out even though they thought it would be a rainout. Seeing the streets of Downtown Rahway filled with people, families, it’s just a wonderful event," said Tom McTamney of the Rahway Center Partnership. Live music from five different bands filled the area, and people roamed the streets.

And it wasn’t just for the grown-ups! There was a "kids only" section featuring a bouncy house and all kinds of fun for the little ones. The vendors lined the streets, and the aromas of all the tasty treats available drifted all over town. The local restaurants and taverns took to the sidewalks, giving people a small sample of what they had to offer.

"The weather has so much to do with an event like this, but I wouldn’t hesitate to call it a success – again! It continues to be the premier event that Rahway has to offer, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!" said Tom.

Special thanks go out to all the sponsors, including RSI Bank, Northfield Bank, and Liberty Harley-Davidson, and also to the Rahway Arts District for all their help promoting the event, and to all the volunteers at the Rahway Center Partnership who worked so hard to make the event a success. Rent a Harley! An afternoon, a day, a week, or longer!

Located within Liberty’s service department, you’ll find an EagleRider Rentals booth. Never considered renting a Harley? Well, why not take a moment and think about it?

What do I need to rent a Harley?

You need a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement. You also need to be 21 years old, and you need to have a credit card capable of being authorized for the security deposit. You need to be open to fun and excitement, and you need to be ready for an adventure. We’ll supply a helmet, a set of raingear (just in case!) and emergency roadside assistance (just in case!). Most models can be equipped with a GPS, available for a per-day fee.

What models do you have?

The fleet changes from year to year, but generally, we have Electra Glides, Road Kings, Street Glides, Heritage Softails, and a Sportster. Best bet is to plan ahead, especially during the busy July and August months, and make your reservation to firm up your model choice.

Isn’t it kinda expensive?

Well, it depends on your perspective. It’s less of an investment than purchasing a Harley, and less of a commitment. But – ALL of the fun! Keep an eye out for “Hot Deals” offered both by Liberty and by EagleRider corporate – you can watch for them on the EagleRider website. SO much going on in May!

May means a lot of things to a lot of people. But in the motorcycle world, it’s jam-packed with events, rides, runs, and adventure. The weather is warming up (and drying up!) and it’s time to RIDE!

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, to begin with, and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is a national initiative aimed at getting motorists and motorcyclists to "share the road" with each other.” Initiatives nationwide are aimed at raising awareness among car and truck drivers that motorcycles are on the road, and have exactly the same rights as any other vehicle. We see motorcycles on the road, but the average car driver doesn’t seem to, as we all know, sadly, someone who was unseen by another driver at a critical moment. As riders we have to be hyper-vigilant when we ride, and can’t afford to lose our focus. You can get lots of safety tips by visiting the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website – or maybe even brush up your skills with an Advanced Rider Course.

May is also Women Riders Month! More women than ever are grabbing the handlebars for themselves, and May is a celebration of this new population of riders. On May 14th, women from across the globe will come together to celebrate women riders. There’s no reason to wait another day if you’ve been dreaming of riding. You can visit Harley-Davidson’s Women Rider website, or find a local Rider Safety Course. Or, start with a Garage Party – a special Ladies Night where you can learn all about riding among other women, women who either ride, or want to ride, or think they may want to ride someday. So you’ve been invited to a “Garage Party,” or perhaps you’ve seen one of our ads for a “Garage Party,” or, maybe you even heard about it on Fox and Friends last week. But what does it mean?

Do I have to have a license? A Harley? A motorcycle? Do I have to know a biker? Do I need a helmet??

The answer to everything above is – NO!

The “Garage Party” concept is something Harley-Davidson began as part of their Women Rider outreach. A few years ago, Harley figured out something that we’ve all known for a long time – women like to ride too! And not just as passengers!

It’s like a Tupperware Party, but instead of looking at food storage in someone’s basement, it’s checking out Harleys at our dealership! We can promise you it’ll be more exciting than keeping your veggies fresh!

Here’s a quick summary of what happens at one of Liberty’s Garage Parties:

Station 1 – Orientation
Our friend Shari, who’s a Rider Education instructor from the Riding Center, will give you a basic overview of the motorcycle, including identifying key components. She’ll let you know where the brakes, shifter, and throttle are located, and how they work together. You’ll get to sit on a bike, put your feet up, and see how it feels. Shari will also be happy to answer any questions you have.

Station 2 – Jumpstart Experience
This is a new station just added this year, but we’re very excited about it! This innovative piece of equipment allows a Harley to run up to 60mph without leaving the safety of the showroom. The bike is securely attached to the Jumpstart, and the rear wheel rides over a roller, allowing you to actually start up the bike, slam it into gear, and feel what it’s like to ride. You can get a feel for the clutch, the shifter and the gas, and take it through all the gears – no traffic, no trees, no weather – no nothing – and best of all, you don’t need a license, or any experience at all!

Station 3 – Fit Shop
Our Fit Shop will let you sit on a specially modified Harley, and then swap out key components such as the handlebars and seat, to find the combination that best suits you. We can also use special mats to simulate a lowering kit. The possibilities for modifying a Harley are almost endless – and with this station, you can see exactly which combination feels best for you.

Station 4 – Gear Up
What sort of gear do I need to ride safely? Our MotorClothes experts will give a demonstration of all the gear you need, and why it’s important. Things like how to properly fit a helmet, fashion leather vs. riding leather, eyewear, and many other topics will be covered. Speaking of “fashion leather”…

Station 5 – My Inner Biker Unleashed
Just for fun, why not grab your favorite “biker” gear and hop on one of our bikes? We’ll snap a picture of YOUR inner biker, and make sure you have an awesome souvenir picture of your experience to share with your friends – ready for you before you leave.

The night is actually very laid back and loosely structured – if you have questions, ask ‘em. There will be some ladies who have already grabbed their own handlebars who will be happy to share their experiences. We’ll also have some light refreshments. It’s really a good time.

Introducing H-D1 ™ Factory Customization
H-D1 factory customization is the newest element of Harley-Davidson customization that allows customers to build the 1200 Custom from a selection of options that are installed as the motorcycle is assembled by Harley-Davidson Motor Company. H-D1 factory customization enables personalized fit, function and style. By selecting different wheels, seats, handlebars, paint, and engine finishes, the customer can dramatically alter the look of the motorcycle. Different combinations of foot-control location, seat and handlebars can be selected to adjust the fit of the motorcycle to a rider's stature. With H-D1 factory customization the customer will have the opportunity to order a 1200 Custom in more than 2,600 combinations.

The H-D1 factory customization tool will be available on Harley-Davidson.com. The customer can view the bike they are creating as different options are selected. The customer can then print out a description of their bike and bring it to a Harley-Davidson dealer to review the motorcycle with trained staff, select additional accessories to be installed by the dealer to further customize the motorcycle, and then place an order. Customers can expect to be riding their new bike in as little as four weeks from the time an order is placed with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer. Delivery timing may vary depending on demand, and will be communicated to customers at the time of order. H-D1 factory customization will be available only through Harley-Davidson dealers in the United States and Canada.

The 1200 Custom has a suggested retail price in the United States of $10,299, and comes equipped with Chrome Five-Spoke Cast Aluminum wheels, pull-back handlebars, forward polished foot controls, a two-up seat, black engine with chrome covers, and Vivid Black paint. Factory-installed options can be swapped out in any combination to this base configuration of the 1200 Custom, using these seven different categories:

* Wheels: Black Five-Spoke Cast Aluminum with machined highlights, Chrome Laced, or Black Laced.
* Handlebars: Drag Bars or Mini-Apes
* Foot Controls: Mid-mount polished
* Seat: Solo

Options can be incorporated with the base configuration in any combination, except that the Mini-Ape handlebars cannot be combined with mid-mount foot controls.

Excerpts from The Informer - The Lowdown on High Performance

...Or, how not to break down...

Our Service Department does a lot of performance work on bikes. We do everything from pipes and hi-flow to full blown 120 kits. It is sometimes routine for us, but almost never for our customers. It is sometimes hard to explain that one should not just look at the engine on their bike for performance enhancements, but look at the whole bike. You could pick out the very best cam, the very best cylinders and heads that the aftermarket has to offer. Then mate it to the very best exhaust system and electronics to fire the whole thing up, but if the parts are not tested together the whole job is nothing more than a crap shoot. Sometimes you win, but most time you will crap-out. It is also important to understand just how the parts that actually put the increased power to the ground like the primary drive, the secondary drive, as well as the wheel and belt pulley, react to performance work. It is quit a journey, and you may be surprised.

Let me tell a tale of what happened to one of my projects several years ago. I purchased a wrecked 1997 Classic from a local salvage yard. The bike was structurally sound, but with a lot of sheet metal damage. My plan was to attach a stock Harley sidecar to this bike. Knowing that with all that additional drag on the bike I decided it was time to put some serious horsepower to the ground, and thought this would be the perfect platform for my project. I sourced a 120ci Screamin’ Eagle twin cam engine and with some very minor upgrades to the stock swing arm it fit right in. I decided to go with a twin-cam because of the way it mates with the tranny. Twin-cam engines and transmissions mount together sort of auto style with the transmission bolting right to the engine block with four heavy bolts instead of just relying on the inner primary to hold everything together. I figured that with all this additional power I would need to upgrade some other parts of my project bike so along with the engine I installed a heavy duty compensator sprocket and chain, and a heavy duty clutch. That should take care of the primary.

I was sure that now I would have no trouble getting the power to the tranny. While I was at it I thought that a nice upgrade would be a P&A 6 speed gear set for my new twin-can tranny case. I was not going to make any changes to the size of the rear tire so I retained the early wide belt and sprockets. Those would surely handle the additional power. The engine had a mechanical compression ratio of 11.5 to one. So along with the compression releases in the cylinder heads I was sure I would need a heavy duty battery, a heavy duty starter and starter drive. I also installed a smaller pinion gear on the starter drive and a heavy duty ring gear on the clutch basket. Those modifications also changed the ratio between the starter pinion gear and the ring gear to make it easier for the starter to spin the big inch motor over. The stock FXR engine mounts were also replaced with heaver duty units and would still need to be monitored closely. But now I thought I was done.

A few months later all the sheet metal was back from the painter, all the modes were complete and all that was left was installing the paint and firing up for its maiden voyage. The engine fired right up and off I was for my first ride. Everything was going fine and over the next several weeks I put on about 2000 break-in miles on the bike. Everything checked out fine and now it was time to see what it had. First order of business now that it was broken in was some hi-speed full throttle runs on the dyno. This allowed us to tune the engine, and control the fuel ratio. After it was tuned we did some high speed runs to see just how much power we had. Not too bad, just under 130HP with a torque reading of just over 140lb. Not too shabby. Next were some real world road tests.

Off I went down Route 1, on my way to our other location, and about two miles down the road I was stopped by a light. I thought that this would be the perfect place for a little side-hack burn out. So I thought. I brought the rpm up to about 3800 and dumped the clutch when the light changed, and to my surprise no burn out, no nothing. Thought I blew the clutch or maybe popped a belt, but that is not what happened. Because of the additional weight of the hack and its related parts, the rear wheel caught traction, the primary sprocket turned, the wheel sprocket turned, but the wheel did not. This 140ft lb motor ripped the webbing on the wheel sprocket, sheered the bolts that hold the pulley to the wheel hub, and ripped the wheel hub from the spokes on the stock cast wheel. What a mess. Total cost of the damage not counting my labor to replace the wheel, the wheel sprocket, and the bolts about $1500 bucks. Very expensive lesson.

That is just the reason Harley’s fitment is so precise. Harley’s hi-performance kits come with parts that some think are unnecessary. Our newest kit, the 120ci, comes with a heavy duty clutch and compensator. It is also the reason that it is not recommended on 07 and earlier. The 08 and later bikes come with a rubber cushioned wheel and sprocket that will take up some of the shock load and not tear the wheel and sprocket up so much. When you build a hi-performance motor, depending on how much juice you give it, everything down the drive line needs to be beefed up to take the strain. What you will find is that if you juice up a twin-cam over 100HP, depending on your skill as a rider, you could easily exceed the bike’s design limits.

What I would like my readers to take away from this article is - yeah, lets hop-it-up. Let’s add all the go-juice we have in the bottle, but do your homework. Do some research and don’t blindly believe all the ads in motorcycle magazines. Most are crap at best; some are actually dangerous. Once again, use my people as your resource for information. We here at Liberty and Highroads have a lot of experience with performance work, and also the right equipment. We spend a lot of money sending our technicians to the factory schools to train our people the right way to do things, the Harley way, you may say. The Motor Company also spends a lot of time and money carefully putting together their kits, so the parts work in concert with each other to maintain that very reliable, and still ridable Harley-Davidson.

What IS the JUMPSTART Experience, anyway??

Remember when you were little, and you put a quarter in that little motorcycle outside of the grocery store? Well, it's time for the grown-up version. No quarter required!

You may have seen or heard our ads for the JUMPSTART Experience and thought to yourself, what on earth could that mean? (It does sound like fun though, doesn't it??)

Here's the deal. The Jumpstart Experience is a piece of equipment we purchased to help people new to the riding world - or those who've only DREAMED of riding - to get a feel for a Harley.

It's basically a small Dyno machine - with a roller on the back. The Harley is attached to the Jumpstart, and someone with NO experience, NO motorcycle license, can sit on the bike, start it up, and slam it into gear. The back wheel spins, the bike runs - up to 65 miles an hour - and you can take the bike up through the gears and back down. And believe me, once you do that a few times, you'll be hooked.

Hines to finals again in Dallas, keeps NHRA countdown lead

(9/26/2010) - Screamin' Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines leads the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship playoffs after a run to the final round of eliminations at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals. It was the sixth consecutive final-round appearance for Hines on his V-Rod®. But in the final round, he lost to Nitrofish Suzuki rider LE Tonglet.

After three of six Countdown events, Hines holds a 44 point lead over Tonglet in the battle for the Pro Stock Motorcycle championship, as he gave up 22 points this weekend.

"Tonglet isn't racing like a rookie, he’s not afraid of anybody right now," said Hines, who has lost the last three final-round matches to Tonglet. "We slowly lost our tune-up all weekend. We've been getting some bad data off the bike, and then misinterpreting that information. I think Matt (crew chief Matt Hines) has it figured out now. We’ve still got the lead and the Screamin' Eagle V-Rod is really performing right now, so we’ll just keep fighting."

Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec is in third place in countdown points, after winning a round of qualifying on Saturday and advancing to the semi-finals on Sunday. Krawiec's 6.924-second pass was good for the number-two spot in qualifying after Al-Anabi Racing Buell rider Matt Smith made a 6.923-second run in the final round to take the top spot. On Sunday, Krawiec blasted through the first two rounds with wins over Pirana Z Buell rider Junior Pippen and VRoom Racing Buell rider David Hope. Krawiec faced Tonglet in the third round, and lost at the line as both riders made 6.969-second runs. Tonglet won with a 0.011-second reaction time to Krawiec's 0.030 light.

"It's tough to lose with a .030 light," said Krawiec. "Nine races out of 10 that will get you a win on the Harley V-Rod. I think we found a tune-up that really works on my bike this weekend, and we won some rounds. I had a very fast motorcycle today."

Hines got wins in the first two rounds on Sunday when Coffman Tank Truck Buell rider Angie Smith and Lincoln Tech Suzuki rider Steve Johnson each fouled at the starting line. In round three, Hines used a better 0.032/6.988 combined time to beat the 0.056/6.979 pass of Matt Smith.

That set up another face-off between the three-time champion, Hines, and the hot rookie, Tonglet. Hines ended the race quickly when he left the start line 0.006-seconds early for a foul.

"We knew I would have to be quick off the line, and we changed the tune-up to the same as was in Ed's bike, but didn’t get the clutch right," said Hines. "So I got my power back but then left early. That was a set-up error."

Hines thinks records could be shattered when the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series appears Oct. 7-10 at Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa., for the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals.

"We have not raced at Reading this late in the season since 2001," said Hines. "The air is probably going to be really cool, which means everyone can make more power. Maple Grove is already a fast track, and the Screamin' Eagle V-Rod really likes cold air. It should be an exciting weekend."

After three of six rounds in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown, Hines leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle class with 2,444 points. Tonglet is second with 2,400 points, followed by Krawiec with 2,264. Matt Smith moves up to fourth place with 2,248 points, followed by Johnson with 2,217 points.
