Goodbye to 2013 - 2014 here we come!

What a year we've had here at Liberty in 2013!

2013 marked our 15th Anniversary - which we celebrated with 500+ of our closest friends, piles of ribs courtesy of Famous Dave's, Demo Rides and live music all day, culminating in the raffle of a custom Harley-Davidson Sportster! What a day that was!

This year was also by far the biggest Liberty HOG Toy Run in our 15 years of runs - thanks to lots of hard work from the Liberty HOG Chapter, and also thanks to our new friends the Fugawi MC who showed up with a whole bunch of toys and friends and helped make the event the raving success that it was!

We also had better weather for (almost) all of our BlacktopBike Nights this year - which we're looking forward to again once the season gets started!

In 2013 we also took up Harley-Davidson Rentals.

2013 was a big year for Harley-Davidson, with the release of the 2014 models, including the Project Rushmore line, and all the new technology that goes with them!

For 2014, we're looking forward to the  arrival of the new Street 500 and Street 750, more great events, another great Hot Rods and Harleys in May, and lots more!  We almost hate to see 2013 go, but we're looking forward to another great year coming up!

Thanks so much to our Liberty extended family of employees and customers for sharing 2013 with us, and we can't wait to spend 2014 with all of you!

Spreading the Holiday Cheer this year

Amidst the shopping and celebrating and gifts and family fun, sometimes it's easy to forget that not everyone is expecting a Merry Christmas this year.

But there are some easy ways you can help bring a little holiday cheer to someone else,  and we like to support the local community as much as possible.  So this year, we have several local people that we are working with, and we are collecting different items during the season.
  • Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption are having a Blanket and Quilt Drive, and will be here on Saturday, Dec. 7 to provide Gift Wrapping during our Pictures with Santa event!   If you have an old blanket, please drop it in the collection bin here at Liberty, anytime between now and Saturday, or just bring it with you on Saturday when you come to get your picture taken!
  • Rahway Food for Friends Food Pantry are always in need of non-perishable food items.  We have a bin here for them as well, and will be delivering any food collected for the holidays.  Why not drop a food item in the bin? You can find more information about what they need at http://www.rahwayfoodforfriendsnj.org/donate.
  • Outside in the parking lot, you'll find a clothing collection bin, to support the Erika Lynn Foundation.   They collect gently used clothing and shoes, and distribute it to local thrift shops.  From their website:
"When our little girl was 2 1/2 years old she was diagnosed with Autism and our lives have never been the same. The Erika Dixon Foundation was formed by me and my family to help the Children and the families of these kids that suffer from this life time disorder." If you have any gently used clothing, please consider dropping it into the big blue box in our parking lot!
  • On Saturday, Dec. 14, Liberty will be hosting our last Blood Drive of the year.  In 2013 alone, the Liberty extended family collected over 150 pints of blood, and we want to finish the year strong.  As they say, "Saving the world is hard, but saving a life is easy."  You can pre-register for the blood drive at www.bloodnj.org, or just stop by between 12 and 5pm - walk-ins are always welcome.
Remember, only a few weeks ago Liberty HOG, with the help of the extended Liberty Family, donated over 3,000 toys to the Bristol Myers-Squibb Childrens' Hospital - enough to keep them in toys for the whole year!

I know with the help of the Liberty Extended Family, we can bring a little more joy to the lives of people who need it most, in our own little way.

After the Liberty H.O.G. 15th Annual Toy Run...The smoke has settled

Guest Blogger - Tom McTamney,
Owner, Liberty Harley-Davidson
I wanted to wait a few days before putting my thoughts about our Toy-Run on paper and share them with everyone. Well, the smoke has settled, and it is now time. Let me start by saying that our first run was maybe 50 or so bikes - a success for the first time. After that run, the Liberty HOG members asked if they could take up the mantle and sponsor the run. It seemed like a natural, and the Liberty HOG toy run was born.
Liberty HOG 1st Annual Toy Run 1999
Over the years our toy run has grown into the largest event my store has had the honor to be a part of. Even when there was snow, rain and blistering cold we managed to still bring out the bikes and always supplied the kids with toys for the season. For that I am eternally grateful.

Let’s fast forward to our 15th Anniversary run. The Liberty HOG Chapter hit it out of the park, so to speak. It was not without a lot of sleepless nights, not only for me, but for my new director, Jack Seals, and my new assistant director Joe Caruso, and my new Treasurer Joe Novak. We have had big runs before, last year almost 500, the year before almost 600, so we were not without experience. But when the Fugawi MC, stars of the History Channel show "We're the Fugawis," agreed to support our run, things rapidly changed.

Overnight, our expectations went from 4 or 5 hundred to quite possibly 1000, and we had to plan accordingly. This required some major changes in the way we worked the run. We needed to provide a safe and fun run for what might be over 1000 sign-ups. This created some serious chaos. The way we did sign-ups, the way we did refreshments, the way we parked the bikes, the way we handled the traffic, and yes, the way we supported the ride itself had to be changed.

Well I have to say that everyone involved, both the new officers, as well as the experienced volunteers, all pulled together and pulled it off. Not only did our HOG chapter pull it off, they made it look easy. 963 signups, 51 law enforcements, and a bushel full of FUGs all hung out in the parking lot and had lots of fun. People ate, drank coffee, and listened to Christmas music. The Fugawi MC did lots of photos with the crowd of people and signed lots of shirts. As I recall, they may have even signed a boob or two. They also brought down a van full of toys and a special gift for the hospital, a handmade doll house which will be placed in the common area of the hospital. It is my pleasure to offer a very special thank you to the Fugawi MC for their generous donation.

When it was time for the ride the HOG volunteers on street patrol, led by Waz, got the ride on the road without a hitch. All the towns cooperated and all the lights were covered as well as any intersections and stop streets. We rode from Rahway to New Brunswick at about 25 mph, and did not have to put our foot down once. It was a fun and safe ride. No bumps, no dings and no downs. Thank you one and all.
We arrived at Robert Wood Johnson hospital, to the waiting eyes and ears of children, and dropped off over 3,000 toys and gifts to the hospital - the most in our 15 years. A Yamaha Internet-Ready Grand Piano, over a dozen iPads, gift cards from Kids R Us and iTunes, and a couple of bicycles from the FUGs. It was amazing. It's always interesting to watch the bikers interacting with the children and their parents; it makes me proud to be a biker. Now that it's all washed out, we know that the Liberty HOGs will be donating $5,000 to the Bristol Myers-Squibb Childrens Hospital as well!

The run ended with a really fantastic pasta dinner, complete with all the trimmings, thanks to the kitchen crew, who, by the way, forgo the ride to make sure a hot meal is ready for everyone. Sitting there at the table enjoying a great meal with friends I couldn’t help but realize that this event could not have been possible without the hard work of all of our HOG volunteers. I owe a boat load of thanks to everyone for making the Liberty HOG chapter, as well as Liberty Harley-Davidson look good. You not only pulled off what might be the biggest HOG event in the state this year, but did it with class, and you made it look easy. Thank you each and everyone.

Harley-Davidson reveals all-new platform to inspire the next generation of global riders; Bikes coming in 2014

(11/4/2013) - Harley-Davidson is continuing its monumental ride, which began with the introduction of Project RUSHMORE in August, by revealing two new Dark Custom™ motorcycles designed for young urban riders around the world.
The Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 and Street™ 500 motorcycles – the first all-new platform from Harley-Davidson in 13 years – are built for urban environments with all-new liquid-cooled Revolution X™ powertrains, nimble agility and the sound and look that lets everyone know they are genuine Harley-Davidson.

“These are the newest motorcycles to join our Dark Custom lineup, which helped make us the number-one selling brand to young adults in the U.S. for the past five years,” said Matt Levatich, President and Chief Operating Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “Both the Street 750 and Street 500 were designed with thousands of hours of input from young adults in cities around the world. This input guided both the attitude and capabilities of these motorcycles. They are proof that being customer-led continues to be a core driver of our product development process.”

Urban, Authentic Harley-Davidson
The Street 750 and Street 500 from Harley-Davidson are built for an urban environment. Each motorcycle features the new Revolution X engine, designed to match the demands of stop-and-go traffic with nimble agility, while delivering instant throttle response to escape city gridlock.
The Revolution X engine will be housed in a new, narrow and lean chassis built for agility, with a super-low seat height, new suspension and broad handlebar sweep that provides confidence and maneuverability when managing tight turns and fast moves. Both signature Dark Custom motorcycles feature a premium, minimalist style that serves as a blank canvas for riders to customize.
“These new bikes are leaner, yet still have a mean streak – they’re the real deal, made of real steel.” said Mark-Hans Richer, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “They’re designed to handle the abuses of urban environments and provide authentic opportunities to customize.”

The Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 and Street™ 500 will be rolling into dealerships in select markets starting in 2014. More information is available at www.h-d.com/street.
Video of the Harley-Davidson Street platform reveal in Milan, including an in-depth walk-through of the motorcycles, details on their design, and a Q&A with Richer will be available at www.youtube.com/HarleyDavidson.

A BIG Thank You from Tom, Dealer Principal of Liberty

Tom McTamney, Dealer Principal
I wanted to jump right on and post a big "Thank You" Saturday night, after our 15th Anniversary Bash.  I also wanted to post a "Thank You" on Sunday.  But the fact is, after seeing how our event went off, the reason I haven't posted is that, I'm speechless.
We've done a lot of events over 15 years, and all have gone off without a hitch (except for some rain).  But this last one, I have to say as the Dealer Principal, has raised the bar to a new level, a level which may be unsustainable.

Where do I start?

Well, the ribs by Famous Dave's were outstanding.  They delivered food for 700 plates, on time, perfectly cooked.  By our last count, we put out 650 platters - plus 250 hot dogs.  Kudos to Famous Dave's for not disappointing - and for filling our lot with the aroma of barbecue!

Next, I have to thank the City of Rahway.  We routinely host events in our lot, 1 or 2 per month during the riding season, and we do kinda take over Milton Ave., Broad Street, the parking lot - and it couldn't happen without the generous cooperation of the City of Rahway.  Our events would all be more difficult without the help of Rahway's Finest.  For this event, we had two off-duty police, but the event went so well that all they had to do was enjoy the day.

While we're thanking the City, we have to thank former Mayor Jim Kennedy for helping us pull the winning ticket, and Mayor Sam Steinman for his kind words.

The David Alen Band was crazy good - they filled the lot with their sounds with the help of Bob, the sound guy.  Thanks to Frank Provenzano from Pro Sound for the equipment!

Now, to the meat of the situation - special thanks to our outstanding, second-to-none Liberty HOG Chapter!  Our HOGs served 600+ plates of food, cake, and ice cream.  They volunteered to help with security, and a fine job they did.  And of course, very special thanks to the Liberty HOG Road Captains, without whom we could not have run the Demo Event.  Let me expand upon that - our Road Captains, ably led by Woz, provided security and safety for 7 Demo Groups - all riders with different experience levels, through city and highway riding, for 50+ test rides.  It's no small matter to keep 50+ novice riders safe, and they volunteered their time and their own bikes.

I'd also like to give a shout out to our honorary HOG member, Ray Mikell, for all his help with the food, and up on stage representing Rahway.

That brings us to the backbone of our event - our employees.  Events at our store generally fall squarely on the shoulders of Anthony and the Service Department crew.  Charged with setup, breakdown, cleanup, these are the guys you see running around, getting tables, ice, chairs, extension cords, and any other random thing we might need.  They handled the signups for the Demo Rides, the stage setup and breakdown, the Jumpstart, and everything in that lot that happened, happened with the help of our Service Crew.

Our General Merchandise crew also worked hard - inside and out - handling 10-20 times more customers than your average Saturday.  Parts kept the parts flying, and our Sales Team, led by Ryan, spent the afternoon mingling.

Before I run out of space, thanks to John and Patty for THREE Anniversary cakes, all beautifully decorated and as fresh and tasty as could be.  And last, thanks to Piece of Cake for providing the Ice Cream to go with the cake - next time you see Teddy or his son Jim, make sure you thank him!

And now a few words about my observations of the day.  I've been riding over 40 years - exclusively H-D for about 30.  What I see in our lot could not be reproduced anywhere in the word except by H-D.  If you were here, you'd have seen lots of clubs - several HOG clubs, lots of NYC MCs, LAMA, Trike Masters - people separated by club affiliation, ethnicity, race, age, gender - and everyone greeted each other like longtime friends.

The Harley-Davidson lifestyle has this magic that unifies people of vastly different backgrounds in their mutual love of riding.

Whether it's a bike night, open house, Patriot Guard Ride, Toy Run, or a ride for all the other causes Bikers ride for, no other brand brings us together like Harley-Davidson.

What is the magic that of brand - the brand we love so much?  Why is it able to transcend something that would otherwise be very difficult to overcome, to unite very different people into one?  No one knows, we just know it is.  I, for one am glad to be a part of it for so long.

I thank you for your continued support, and I hope we'll all be around for the next 15 years!

The new Triple-Vent System for leathers from Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson Adds John Fogerty, Uncle Kracker and Two-Day Tickets For Milwaukee 110th

Harley-Davidson Adds John Fogerty, Uncle Kracker and Two-Day Tickets For Milwaukee 110th
MILWAUKEE (July 9, 2013) - 100,000 thundering motorcycles. 60-plus bands, including three amazing headliners. A massive motorcycle parade. All the food and drink you care to have. The opportunity to ride Harley-Davidson’s all new Model Year 2014 motorcycles …free tattoos…custom bikes shows…the legendary UFC Octagon®. And now a new two-day ticket option.

“When we have fun, we go full throttle,” said Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer Mark-Hans Richer. “We know there are other music festivals and motorcycle rallies, but our 110th in Milwaukee will be an epic bash. You won’t want to miss it. It only happens once every five years.”
The Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration over Labor Day weekend is fast approaching, with non-stop events geared toward all kinds of Harley fans – riders, locals, visitors and families.

NEW TWO-DAY TICKET OPTION
The creation of a two-day ticket option was driven by customer feedback as many nationwide reached out requesting more ticketing options.

“So now even your boss can’t stop you from joining us,” Richer added. “This isn’t just a party – it will be the party of the year. Tickets and rooms are still available, but going fast.”
The two-day ticket is $79 plus convenience fees and is now available at www.h-d.com/110tickets. The ticket is good for any two days of the three-day party, Aug. 29 – 31. Harley-Davidson will not offer one-day tickets.

Three-day tickets, available for $95 plus convenience fees, and two-day tickets each provide access to the 110th Anniversary party headquarters – the Milwaukee Summerfest Grounds. During the three-day event, fans can see dozens of bands on five different stages ranging from emerging stars to legendary groups, as well as check out police and H.O.G. motorcycle stunts, precision riding shows and special Harley-Davidson product displays and exhibits.

NEW TALENT ADDED FOR THE PARTY OF THE YEAR
In addition to the 60 acts that will take the various stages of the Summerfest Grounds during the 110th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson will also feature three headlining concerts each night of the event and a UFC fight Saturday night (Aug. 31).
Country superstar Toby Keith (Aug. 29), Rock n’ Roll Hall-of-Famers Aerosmith (Aug. 30) and Kid Rock (Aug. 31) will each take the stage at Marcus Amphitheater. Tickets for Toby Keith begin at $20, while Aerosmith and Kid Rock tickets start at $24.50 each plus convenience fees – tickets for all three concerts are available at www.h-d.com/110tickets.

Today, Harley-Davidson released specifics for the Toby Keith and Kid Rock shows:
  • Country music singer-songwriter Kip Moore will open for Toby Keith. Moore hit the top of the country charts in 2011 with his single “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck,” which was followed by the release of his debut album Up All Night.
  • Rocker Uncle Kracker will open for Kid Rock, while music legend John Fogerty will sit in with the American ‘Badass’ for one set during Kid Rock’s concert Aug. 31.
Fogerty, the former lead singer, guitarist and writer for Creedence Clearwater Revival, has the distinction of being named to Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists” and “100 Greatest Singers.” Fogerty’s new album, “Wrote a Song for Everyone,” debuted in the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #3 earlier this year, selling 50,000+ copies in its first week. This will be his first on-stage appearance since his new album dropped.

Uncle Kracker’s hits include the two-time platinum, multi-format smash hit "Smile;" the Top 5 hit "Follow Me;" as well as "Drift Away," which set the Billboard record for most weeks at No. 1 on any chart. Uncle Kracker met Kid Rock during a turntable competition near Detroit when he was a teenager. He later became the DJ for Kid Rock’s Twisted Brown Trucker Band before launching a solo career. His latest album Midnight Special features his upcoming single "Blue Skies."
Fans can also witness one of the hardest-hitting live fights of the year – the UFC® 164 Harley-Davidson Hometown Throwdown at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Saturday evening. The action-packed card will feature more than 10 bouts, including a UFC Lightweight Championship challenge between the current champion Benson Henderson and top contender TJ Grant and a fight between two former UFC Heavyweight champions – Frank Mir and Josh Barnett. Tickets for the UFC Hometown Throwdown range from $60 to $400 before taxes and fees.

The event will feature exclusive early entry for H.O.G. members, live entertainment including Lynyrd Skynyrd and nine other brands, a H.O.G. precision riding competition, a New Orleans-style walking parade and a members-only Muscular Dystrophy Association bike raffle. The new Harley-Davidson® Breakout® belongs to the street

(3/8/2013)- The 2013 Harley-Davidson® Breakout® motorcycle is an urban prowler, a bike ready for a midnight ramble to the roadhouse or a rib joint rendezvous with the crew. Green light? Crack the throttle to deliver a muscular dose of American V-Twin torque and etch the asphalt with a fat rear tire. The Breakout will be long gone, along with its rider’s inhibitions.

With authentic swagger that turns heads in traffic and a proud stance certain to draw a curb-side crowd on bike night, the Breakout is presented as a premium model in its segment with distinctive finishes and specific components not available on other Harley-Davidson bikes. Long and low-slung, the Breakout features a 240mm rear tire visually balanced with thick forks and chopped fenders, while a shaved tank console and a drag handlebar keep the profile low. A Twin Cam 103B™ powertrain and other components are trimmed in gleaming chrome and gloss-black paint.

Like the acclaimed 2013 Custom Vehicle Operations™ (CVO™) Breakout® model that precedes it, the Breakout features styling that’s smooth, tight, and intended to showcase the engine and the tires.

“With Breakout we got down to motorcycle essentials, which means emphasizing the powertrain and the wheels,” says Harley-Davidson Styling Manager Kirk Rasmussen. “The black and chrome engine visually pops out of the center the bike, and then to maximize the impact of the tires, the fenders are chopped. We wanted a lot of rubber showing to give the Breakout a tough, muscular look.”

Check out the Burst Collection from Harley-Davidson!

Chris Tonstad, Parts Manager &
Guest Blogger
The Burst Collection from Harley-Davidson®

You know what they say; picking which Harley-Davidson® model you want is easy, the hard part is what accessories to add. Well, the Motor Company has added to the choices with the new Burst Collection. But this is an easy choice to make, especially all of you Street Glide owners out there. We decided to install this collection on our LED Lighting Road Kind model, and the results are outstanding! Harley-Davidson® did this collection right, by anodizing the surfaces, instead of powder coating, then machining the unique designs throughout each piece. This allows for extremely clean lines between the black and machined surfaces. If you’ve seen a cheap set of “contrast cut” components, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about, with those lines appearing a bit rough at best, or downright sloppy at worst. We’ll detail all of the pieces from the collection here, including those that we didn’t install on our Road King.

(For specific fitment inquiries, please contact our Parts Department, and they will be happy to help you find the perfect set for your bike.)

Engine Covers
The heart and soul of you Harley-Davidson is the motor itself, and these engine covers are designed to draw everyone’s attention to your Twin Cam motor. Made from billet or cast aluminum, these covers will look great against chrome, aluminum, texture or gloss black surfaces. Manufactured as direct OEM replacements, these covers fit just a great as they look. Installation of the derby cover is a breeze; you’ll just need the old Frisbee-style flat gasket to make this work. The cam and transmission side covers are a bit trickier, also needing new gaskets, but removal of the exhaust system may be required to properly install these items without damaging them. The rocker covers are tricky, as a specialty tool recommended for the fasteners really helps with the installation on Touring models.

You Softail owners, however, will need to remove the motor to properly install these covers. Yes, that’s right, you will need to remove the motor to install these rocker covers on Twin Cam equipped Softail models. That’s the word from the Motor Company directly. Could you do it without removing the motor? Maybe, but the risk of damaging the covers greatly increases with this scenario. These covers are taller than the OEM covers, and use blind holes for the fasteners to keep the side facing surfaces clean looking, though this hampers installation times.

Headlamp Trim Ring
This trim ring really sets off your 7” headlamp, especially an LED headlamp in black! The machined grooves in the trim ring against the black anodized surface sets this apart from anything else. Straight forward installation on this.

Saddlebag Latch Kit
These saddlebag latches are a direct replacement for your existing chrome or color-matched latches. These are an outstanding addition to any hard saddlebag, especially in Vivid Black! Easy installation, comes with chrome plated mounting hardware, utilizing your existing lock assemblies.

Shifter Peg
These shifter pegs are an outstanding addition to the Edge Cut billet shifter levers (which we have pictured here). These pegs feature a rubber backing along with the anodized black and machined cut surfaces, to help protect your boot while upshifting.

Brake Pedal Pad
The machined edge on this pedal offsets the stylized rubber insert featuring the famed Bar & Shield. This is another accessory that would go great with the Edge Cut billet rear brake lever (also, pictured here). Another easy install.

Rider & Passenger Floorboard Kits
To say that these floorboards are beefy is a drastic understatement! These half-shield shaped aluminum pans are shaped from a solid aluminum block, anodized black, and the outside edges machined to match the brake pedal. These floorboards also feature the isolation mounting found on OEM floorboards, and the high traction rubber inserts feature a nice crosshatch design, with the Bar & Shield featured right in the middle. Another straight forward installation.

Screamin’ Eagle® Performance Air Cleaner Kit
This air cleaner kit stands out far and away from anything else out there. The one piece backing plate is powder coated gloss black to fit with the anodized tuxedo black finishes on the cover, and features integral breather passages to keep the assembly small and clean looking. The included washable, reusable high flow air cleaner allows massive volumes of air for the most demanding of performance upgrades on your Touring motorcycle. The outside 2 piece cover sets off the rest of the collection, with the machined Bar & Shield right in the center. Your EFI motorcycle will need to be recalibrated to accommodate the increase in air flow this air cleaner provides, and is listed “for race application only”.

That sums up what we outfitted our Road King with, but there’s more to the collection than this!

Speaker Trim Kit
Put a little swagger in your sound with these cool spider-like grilles! These kits are designed to work with both OEM or Boom!™ Audio fairing mounted speakers, and is a great addition to any Edge Cut accessory on your handlebars. The unique design, with its machine cut pattern on tuxedo black anodized finish, will not impede the quality of sound from your Advanced Audio system, and comes with everything needed for installation.

Fork Cover Medallions
Here’s the finishing touch on any FL-style black front end upgrade! These medallions are a breeze to install, and work great with any of the Burst or Edge Cut collections.

Screamin’ Eagle® 3.5” End Caps
Complete out your look with these beautiful contrasting ends caps! The machined aluminum in contrast to the black anodized finish works great with either chrome or black finish mufflers.
And there you have it! The Burst Collection is sure to add jaw-dropping detail to your motorcycle, and works great in conjunction with the existing Edge Cut collection from Harley-Davidson. Swing by and take a look at these pieces in person, as the pictures really do not do these items justice. Once you see them in person, you’ll be sold on this newest accessory from Harley-Davidson!
